Messaging Architects

GWFax
Because both fax and email are important elements of your business communications strategy, GWFax combines
both technologies into one powerful messaging solution. GWFax lets users send and receive faxes directly
with the GroupWise email client.
Sending a fax from GroupWise is easy — simply click the Fax icon on the GroupWise toolbar. The interface
for sending a fax is similar to that for sending email — just enter a fax number instead of an email address.
The GroupWise plug-in lets you use your GroupWise address book for both email addresses and fax numbers.
GWFax centralises fax services to a server so all your users can receive faxes to their desktops without
the need for modems. Users can view faxes through the GroupWise client, GroupWise WebAccess, GroupWise
Wireless, or have them routed directly to any network printer.
When combined with Direct Inward Dial (DID) routing technology, GWFax users receive faxes in their GroupWise
email inbox—just like email messages. These can be viewed with the built-in GroupWise fax viewer
GWFax DID Manager is an application that integrates with ConsoleOne. This allows the administrator to create
and manage banks of DID numbers and assign them to individual users or a group of users. The fax numbers are
stored in NDS.
The application "hooks" into a database of DID numbers, letting your network admin create banks, assign DID
numbers individually, or in bulk, and maintain them effortlessly. If a DID number is "unassigned," it is
deleted in NDS and made available for future use. Users are updated directly in NDS through GWFax
configuration wizards. Everything is done with a few simple clicks.
With its powerful features and ease of use, GWFax brings real-time fax communication into your office.
Work more effectively, and dramatically improve your productivity by sending, receiving, managing, and
annotating faxes at your desktop. Save thousands of pounds every year in hard costs—fax machines, toner,
paper, and more! GWFax is integrates easily with Novell GroupWise 6.x.
Save on Phone Expenses
Typical Fortune 500 companies spend 37% of their phone bill on fax traffic. When sending a fax by
conventional means—that is, over phone lines—you can run into long-distance costs. With GWFax, you use
un-metered Internet connections to send faxes. And, if you have a GWFax server in one or more area codes
(in other company offices), least-cost routing algorithms transmit the fax over the line with the lowest
tariff. When the fax is sent over your own company intranet, the cost of sending a fax approaches zero.

Send and Receive Faxes over SMTP
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) is an open-standards protocol for sending email messages from server
to server. Using SMTP to send faxes provides the following advantages:
• Version independence and future compatibility
• Worry-free GroupWise integration
• Rapid Deployment
Monitor Fax Usage
Companies often have difficulty calculating how much they spend on faxing—phone bills rarely distinguish
between voice and fax use. Because GWFax resides on your servers, you can monitor how much faxing is being
done, and pinpoint how often departments or individuals send faxes.
View Faxes Anywhere
With GWFax and GroupWise WebAccess, you can read your faxes from anywhere. As long as you have web access
your GroupWise inbox, you can have your fax and read it too. In the office, you can print your fax to any
network printer when you want a hardcopy.
Guaranteed Delivery
When sending a fax with GWFax, you have several delivery options. If the destination number is busy, the
fax is saved to the server and sent as soon as possible—the server manages redialing for you. Your fax will
always be delivered, and GWFax will keep you informed of its delivery status.
Send Secure Documents
Fax transmissions are typically not encrypted and can be intercepted; and most fax machines can be accessed
by anyone in your company—your fax is never private. With GWFax, faxes are securely routed to your GroupWise
inbox, and can only be accessed with proper Novell Directory Services (NDS) authentication.
Use the GroupWise Address Book
GWFax includes a GroupWise client plug-in that integrates your GroupWise address book—you only need one
address book to send faxes and email.
Attach any Document
GWFax gives users the ability to attach any document when sending a fax. GWFax automates transformation
and faxing of virtually any document from any application.
Send Broadcast Faxes
Use GWFax's broadcast feature to send documents to a list of recipients. With your GroupWise address book
groups, you can select hundreds of recipients for your fax.
GWFax DID Manager
GWFax DID Manager is an application that integrates with ConsoleOne. This allows the administrator to
create and manage banks of DID numbers and assign them to individual users or a group of users. The fax
numbers are stored in NDS.
GWFax Plug-in with Integrated Print Driver
With the GWFax integrated print driver, you can send faxes from any application that supports printing.
To fax, simply print to the GWFax printer. The desired document is converted to pdf format and the GWFax
plug-in is launched. The GWFax plug-in sends the file to the GWFax server. The server then dispatches it
to the designated fax destination.
Archiving - the application has the ability to archive all incoming faxes
Custom Application Integration - allows other applications to communicate with the GWFax server
using the file scanning service
Support Brooktrout Boards
GWFax supports Brooktrout's Intelligent fax boards—the most trusted fax server hardware: Brooktrout TR1034
series, TR-114 series (Analog Loop-Start, DID, T1 and ISDN), and Trufax boards.
