L7 Enforcer™

Akonix L7 Enforcer is a perimeter security software solution that detects and blocks the unauthorised use of high-risk and evasive Public Instant Messaging (IM) and Peer-to-Peer File Sharing (P2P) applications on enterprise networks.

Deployed alongside Akonix L7 Enterprise to block users from circumventing the gateway or as standalone perimeter security, Akonix L7 Enforcer is an enterprise software solution designed to detect, report, and selectively block unsanctioned IM and P2P network traffic.

Akonix L7 Enforcer combines deep packet inspection with comprehensive protocol signature recognition to provide accurate detection and blocking of the major P2P and public IM applications. Utilizing an asynchronous, "pass-by" architecture, Enforcer will not degrade network performance or act as a single point of failure, unlike in-line devices such as firewalls.

Flexible policy settings to allow IT managers to define how individual protocols are handled (such as actively blocked or passively monitored and reported on) and can include an exception list for specific IP addresses or a range of addresses for highly granular access control. Akonix L7 Enforcer access policies can also be prioritised to optimise the processing of various protocols and IP addresses.

Detailed reporting to identify IM and P2P usage patterns throughout the network. Akonix L7 Enforcer maps each IP address to the corresponding network user to let IT administrators know who is trying to access the unsanctioned application and to provide actionable and readable reports. Reports can be organised by protocol, user name or by IP address.

A unique dynamic update capability that ensures protocol signatures are current by regularly downloading changes to existing protocols or adding protocols of new applications. This update process happens without system downtime or reboot.
